Electronic Instrumentation and Laboratory of Electronic Instrumentation, 2009

Firstly, the course begins with an introduction to Instrumentation Systems to solve the problem of measurements of physical systems, how to analyze experimental data and metrological aspects. Secondly, analog signal conditioning is presented along the main electronic circuits used and the influence of noise and interference in order to design such circuits. Thirdly, several sensors and electronic and optoelectronic transducers are described attending their electronic and optical characteristics along with their applications in several fields as position, displacement, temperature, etc. Finally, and due to their interest some electronic and optoelectronic sensors for biomedical instrumentation are also described. After the course the student should be able to solve basic instrumentation problems involving electronic and optoelectronic sensors that would include correct transducer election, design of the analog conditioning circuitry and evalution of the overall performance of the system.

PREREQUISITES AND RECOMMENDED PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge on Analogue and Digital Electronics as well as Electronic Circuit Design, Photonics, Linear Systems.
GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION
Introduction to Instrumentation Systems to solve the problem of measurements of physical systems, how to analyze experimental data and metrological aspects.
Analog signal conditioning and the main electronic circuits used and the influence of noise and interference in order to design such circuits.
Description of several sensors and electronic and optoelectronic transducers attending their electronic and optical characteristics along with their applications in several fields as position, displacement, temperature, etc.
Description of some electronic and optoelectronic sensors for biomedical instrumentation.
OBJETIVES: KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
After the course the student should be able to solve basic instrumentation problems involving electronic and optoelectronic sensors that would include correct transducer election, design of the analog conditioning circuitry and evaluation of the overall performance of the system.

LABORATORY TESTS AND EXAMS
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA: A single, practical exam shall be taken at the end of the four-month period. In order to pass the subject, the student shall carry out and pass the corresponding practical laboratory work.
