Pablo Acedo Gallardo

Associate Professor

Pablo Acedo Gallardo

Pablo Acedo received his Bachelor degree in 1993 from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in the Telecommunications Engineering degree, and his Ph D degree (with honors) from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in 2000 for his work on heterodyne two color laser interferometry for fusion plasma diagnostics. His doctoral work included the development of the first two color laser system for a Stellarator (Stellarator TJ-II, Laboratorio Nacional de Fusión, CIEMAT, Madrid) and the first two-color Nd:YAG system for a Fusion Device (Tokamak C-Mod Plasma Science and Fusion Centre, Massachusetts Institute of Technology), the later during several doctoral visits to MIT during the years 1996-1999.

In 2000 entered the Universidad Carlos III staff (Assistant Professor) where he has continued with the development of scientific instrumentation systems for fusion plasma diagnostics and biomedical applications, leading national projects and contracts on these fields. Also, since his incorporation to the UC3M, he has been involved in research with the Optoelectronics and Laser Technology Group, participating in different national and EU funded research projects on high speed semiconductor laser devices. His main contributions on this line has been the experimental characterization of laterally coupled and mode-locking structures and the study of their applications to photonic signal processing of microwaves and photonic generation of millimeter-wave signals. Currently his interests in this line are the development of integrated active photonic antennas for mm-wave and THz generation and detection, as well as photonic processing of such signals.

Jose Antonio García Souto

Associate Professor

Jose Antonio García Souto

José A. García-Souto received his Bachelor degree in 1995 from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in the Telecommunications Engineering degree, and his Ph D degree from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in 2003. Since 2004 he has been an Assistant Professor at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid with the Electronic Technology Department and a researcher with the Optoelectronics and Laser Technology Group, participating in different national and EU funded research projects on instrumentation and communications.

He is currently working on fiber-optic interferometric sensing of acoustic emission, optoelectronic instrumentation and measurements in harsh environments, in which he is also coordinating a National Project. His research interests are optical sensors and instrumentation, fiber-optic interferometry and optoelectronics for industrial applications.
