PRERREQUISITES AND RECOMMENDED PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

Basic analog and digital electronic circuits.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE

Nowadays, more and more electronics are around us. We can find them in the automotive, biomedicine or aerospacial sectors, just to mention some of them. Due to the minituarization process of the design nodes, the current trend goes towards the integration of many different systems into the same chip. We are able now to implement much more efficient applications in energy and in occupied area. These applications may include into the same chip sensing, filtering, analog-to-digital conversion and processing operations, which requires of wide knowledge of mixed-signal circuits for its design and implementation. The main goal during this course will be learning the basics for the design and implementation of these architectures.

OBJECTIVES: KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

      • Understand the design trade-offs and limitations when a small node is used to integrate a system on a chip.
      • Basic Design rules for main analog and mixed-signal blocks such as current references, amplifiers, comparators, switches or ring oscillators.
      • Simulation set-ups to optimize a mixed-signal design.
      • Design for testability and Robust design.
